this single tells a small piece of a collaboration that lasted a couple of years with Mulatu Astatke.
Here we are together with Alfonso Santimone and Umberto Trombetta Gandhi
With Mulatu is a friendship that began in 2015 with a meeting between the part of my band and part of him, with 8 musicians on stage, the project was called Mesa, an original production conceived by the Italian Cultural Institute Addis Ababa.
The following year, we met again for a new encounter with a smaller band, an anomalous bassless quartet, with me on soprano and bass clarinet, Alfonso Santimone on Rhodes synth piano, and a fantastic bass synth, an extraordinary hypnotic UT Gandhi drumming, with a super inspired vibes Mulatu in that psychedelic intimate group.
The recording of this song is made during rehearsals, it really documents the atmosphere that was created those days of August in Sardinia, where we played at sunset on the Argentiera beach (North West of Sardinia), it was a hypnotic concert wrapped in the sand, waves, and sun that plunged into the sea to the west, in front of 2000 people.
This Mulatu song in our arrangement "Tsome Digua", well represents the desire to go further, to capture emotions and new sounds.
